Catch a bright star and place it on your forehead, say a few spells...

Where to begin holy crap.....

The news story today about the friendly dog that stop the killing spree still floors me. In case you haven't heard a man from New Brunswick drove to Toronto and went to a park with the intention of going on a killing rampage, but while at the park a dog ran up to him and started playing with him. Apparently the man was an animal lover (more-so than a human lover I guess) and he thought that if there was such a nice dog in the neighborhood that the people must also be nice so he turned himself into the first police officer he saw. They found multiple guns with over 6000 rounds of ammunition along with knives and a machete. He was going to just kill people at random.
The dog should get his own tv show where he roams around from town to town and fixes problems (pretty brilliant idea for a show) I've got a song for it too.... there's a voice that keeps on calling me, on the road that's where I'll always be... the show should be called "the dog that stopped a massacre".
In all seriousness though this case with the dog is the 3rd thing that makes me believe in a higher power.

I read the book "All Day Breakfast" by: Valerie Joy Kalynchuk the other day it was a really good little book. Much love to my sister who bought it for me.

Elevate me Later

A few years ago I saw the movie "Bicentennial man" and I had such rock bottom expectations that I actually liked it. At the time I remember sincerely enjoying the movie. Well I saw it again today and I have to say that it is garbage. Which brings me back to the belief that the only good Robin Williams movie is "Good Will Hunting" and the only good Sam Neill movie is Jurassic Park nothing. Neill is one of those guys that you can almost take seriously but he still seems like the poor mans version of someone (whom I haven't yet figured out......maybe Pierce Brosnan).

All this got me thinking about expectations and how they ruin everything. Because I had expected this movie to suck originally I had perceived it as good and I only really find my true thoughts years later. The opposite is even worse, when all I hear is how a good a movie is it is destined to be a disappointment. I didn't like the Lord of the Rings movies (well the first 2 is all I've seen). Maybe in 4 years I'll change my mind.

I was born on the floor

Sunday June 13th was exactly one year since I quit smoking (I would have posted yesterday but my internet
was acting stupid which is another issue all together)

-> I smoked for 9 years, about half a pack a day and had never really tried to quit.

-> Quitting was a lot easier than I thought it would be, in fact it wasn't really hard at all. (I do have
to say that I don't have an addictive personality though, I really learned that from quitting)

-> It is less than a week for the physical dependency effects to go away and then you just have to get over the mental addiction, which for me was just about every hour my brain would say hey its time for a cigarette, and you just have to stop and say to yourself no its not.

-> My only tips for quitting are these: 1. get yourself some cinnamon flavored gum (cinnamon is good because
it has a bit of a burn to it) 2. picture yourself lying on your death bed dying of a smoking related disease. (seriously, If you were at that point wouldn't you wish that you had quit)

-> Quitting cold turkey is the only way to do it: If you think hey I can just cut back or slowly wean myself off that's bullshit and it wont work also no nicotine patches or gum also bullshit how do you quit the substance you're addicted to by continuing to put it in your body?

-> don't try to quit with someone else: at first it seems like a great idea, like hey we can give each other moral support, that's bullshit what inevitably happens is you both convince each other what a good idea it is to smoke. You may be thinking yeah right I'm stronger than that, well if that was true you wouldn't be smoking. It really comes down to making a personal decision and going through with it.

-> don't believe the hype: Everyone wants you to think that quitting smoking is really hard, the cigarette companies (so you wont try) the nicotine gum/patch industry (so you'll buy their shit), all the ex-smokers (so they can brag and feel good about themselves)

-> In the most basic boiled down version of everything quitting smoking (or anything else for that matter) is the easiest thing to do in the world. YOU JUST STOP DOING IT!!! sounds simple, well it is.

how did you quit stabbing yourself in the arm with that knife? I just stopped doing it.

only an impulse buy in the sky

I finished the Da Vinci Code today and here is what pissed me off.

--> First of all I have to state that it took me a while before I even decided to start it after reading
Dan Brown's previous book "Angels and Demons"

--> Dan Brown is a shitty writer (which is why it took me so long to actually start the Da Vinci Code.)

--> I would have preferred to read a completely dry text of all the research that went into both of those books.

--> Brown fails with his paper thin characters, gut wretchingly forced dialogue and imagery, completely
formulaic plot and things that just downright annoy the hell out of me (at least in this one he only refers to Langdons Tweed Jacket 12 times....That's right I counted because in the last book it seemed that he mentioned it on every other page and it really started to make me cringe.....look at the fucking picture of Brown in the back of the book wearing his own fucking tweed and it makes it even more annoying.)

--> One thing that really pissed me off was the fact that because the media had jumped all over this book when it came out I knew every "secret" before they happened so there was no surprises....That's total bullshit...(If you've heard a bunch of stuff about this book, making you think wow that sounds interesting, chances are you've heard all the interesting facts in the book) Why would all those fuckers reviewing the book give away so much.

--> Who the hell makes their villain an albino, seriously?

--> Lastly I will say what I said about Angels and Demons. It was really well researched and there was a lot of interesting info in it......but like I said earlier I would have rather read all that info in a dry direct essay rather than a tabloid novel.

--> I should add that Angels and Demons and the Da Vinci code are the only books that I've ever read which fall into the "modern for the masses" category.... you know those books that you can buy at convenience stores, grocery stores and gas stations....these books may be fine for some people but I guess they're not really my thing.

I found a fatal flaw in the logic of love

Just another Manic Monday

What the hell is it about Prince that people like? I seriously have never understood it. Not even a little bit. He wrote "Manic Monday" for Susanna Hoffs and the Bangles to perform (apparently because he had a crush on her). I just listened to that song and I think Prince is fucked. Listen to the lyrics of that song and then tell me that its not weird that he wrote those lyrics for a girl that he had a crush on to sing.

This world is not my home I'm just passing through

I read and interview with Ian Mackaye today and it was too good. He just totally gets it and has never compromised his music or ethics. He's a pretty funny guy too.

Canada post is fucked. I learned today from mailing some packages that it is cheaper to mail a package to any of the states (including Alaska and Hawaii) than it is to send the same package 5 miles down the road. The logic behind this is impossible to find.

I heard today that you cant buy tickets to the first day of Lollapalooza only. You have to either buy tickets to both days or just the second day. Of course the first day is the one with the big draws. Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, Morrissey etc. etc. The big draw on day two is the flaming lips and if you live in New York the Pixies. The last Lollapalooza I went to was 1994 and that's most likely the way its going to stay.
